Popular Things to Do in the Folsom Area

Located roughly 25 miles northeast of Sacramento, CA, the town of Folsom first came to prominence during the famous Gold Rush of the 19th century; today, it’s a modern, sophisticated city, offering a wealth of fantastic cultural attractions – not to mention breathtaking vistas and outdoor activities to suit every taste.

The American River Parkway’s Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail and separate equestrian trail offer hikers, cyclists and horseback riders prime opportunities for outdoor recreation, nature viewing and relaxation. Fishing enthusiasts can try their luck and their lures along the parkway.

Canoeists, kayakers and rafters can dip their paddles into the chilly and sometimes challenging water of the river, while recreational boaters can launch at Discovery Park, making discoveries of their own along the winding banks.

Shoppers will love exploring Sutter Street in Historic Old Town Folsom, with its diverse shops, galleries, and restaurants. And a visit to the Folsom Prison Museum is a must for those interested in seeing the landmark immortalized in popular culture by singer Johnny Cash, who held two concerts at the prison in the 1960s.
